
The thing the Time Traveller held in his hand was a glittering metallic framework, scarcely larger than a small clock, and very delicately made.	Yn llaw'r Teithiwr Amser roedd fframwaith metelaidd disglair, prin yn fwy na chloc bach, a oedd wedi'i wneud yn ofalus iawn â llaw.
He took one of the small octagonal tables that were scattered about the room, and put it in front of the fire.	Gafaelodd yn un o'r byrddau wythonglog bychan a oedd ar wasgar o gwmpas yr ystafell a'i roi o flaen y tân.
On this table he placed the mechanism.	Gosododd y mecanwaith ar y bwrdd.
Then he drew up a chair, and sat down.	Tynnodd gadair ato'i hun ac eistedd.
The only other object on the table was a small shaded lamp, the bright light of which fell upon the model.	Yr unig beth ar y bwrdd oedd lamp fach, a'i golau llachar yn goleuo'r model.
There were also perhaps a dozen candles around the room, two in brass candlesticks upon the mantel and several in sconces, so that the room was brilliantly illuminated.	Roedd tua dwsin o ganhwyllau o gwmpas yr ystafell hefyd, dau mewn canwyllbrennau pres ar y silff ben tân ac amryw ar y wal, fel bod digon o olau yn yr ystafell.
I sat in a low armchair near the fire, and I drew this forward so as to be almost between the Time Traveller and the fireplace.	Eisteddais yn y gadair freichiau isel ger y tân, a'i thynnu'n agosach fel fy mod i bron rhwng y Teithiwr Amser a'r lle tân.
Filby sat behind him, looking over his shoulder.	Eisteddodd Filby y tu ôl iddo, gan edrych dros ei ysgwyddau.
The Medical Man and the Provincial Mayor watched him from the right, the Psychologist from the left.	Edrychai'r Dyn Meddygol a Maer y Dalaith arno o'r dde, a'r Seicolegydd o'r chwith.
The Time Traveller looked at us, and then at the mechanism.	Edrychodd y Teithiwr Amser arnon ni, ac yna ar y mecanwaith.
“Well?” said the Psychologist.	"Wel?" meddai'r Seicolegydd.
“This is only a model,” said the Time Traveller, resting his elbows upon the table and pressing his hands together.	"Dim ond model yw hwn," meddai'r Teithiwr Amser, gan orffwys ei ddau benelin ar y bwrdd a gwasgu'i ddwylo at ei gilydd.
“It is my plan for a machine to travel through time.”	"Dyma fy nghynllun ar gyfer peiriant sy'n gallu teithio drwy amser."
“You will notice that it looks askew, and that there is an odd twinkling appearance about this bar, as though it was in some way unreal.”	"Fe sylwch chi ei fod yn edrych ar dro, a bod gan y bar yma ryw ymddangosiad pefriog od, fel pe na bai mewn rhyw ffordd yn real."
He pointed to the part with his finger.	Pwyntiodd at y rhan gyda'i fys.
“Also, here is one little white lever, and here is another.”	"Hefyd, dyma un lifer bach gwyn, a dyma un arall."
The Medical Man got up out of his chair and peered into the thing.	Cododd y Dyn Meddygol o'i gadair a syllu i mewn i'r peth.
“It’s beautifully made,” he said.	"Mae wedi'i wneud yn hyfryd," meddai.
“It took two years to make,” retorted the Time Traveller.	"Cymerodd ddwy flynedd i'w wneud," meddai'r Teithiwr Amser.
“Now I want you clearly to understand that this lever, when pressed, sends the machine gliding into the future, and this other one reverses the motion.”	"Nawr, dwi am i chi ddeall yn glir fod y lifer yma, o'i gwasgu, yn anfon y peiriant i'r dyfodol, ac mae'r un arall yma yn gwrthdroi'r weithred."
There was a minute’s pause perhaps.	Bu tawelwch am eiliad.
Then the Time Traveller reached towards the lever.	Yna estynnodd y Teithiwr Amser am y lifer.
“No,” he said suddenly. “Lend me your hand.”	"Na," meddai'n sydyn. "Rho fenthyg dy law i mi."
And turning to the Psychologist, he took that individual’s hand in his own, so that it was the Psychologist himself who sent the model on its voyage.	Gan droi at y Seicolegydd, cymerodd ei law yn ei law ei hun, fel mai'r Seicolegydd ei hun a anfonodd y model ar ei daith.
We all saw the lever turn. I am absolutely certain there was no trickery.	Fe welon ni i gyd y lifer yn troi. Dwi'n gwbl sicr na fu unrhyw dwyll.
There was a breath of wind, and the lamp flame jumped.	Daeth chwa o wynt, a neidiodd fflam y lamp.
One of the candles on the mantel was blown out, and the little machine suddenly swung round, became indistinct, was seen as a ghost for a second perhaps; and it was gone!	Diffoddodd un o'r canhwyllau ar y silff ben tân, a dechreuodd y peiriant bach droi'n sydyn, mynd yn aneglur, gan edrych fel ysbryd am eiliad efallai; ac yna fe ddiflannodd!
Except for the lamp, the table was bare.	Ar wahân i'r lamp, roedd y bwrdd yn wag.
