Luca and Nina were driving home from their weekend camping trip, enjoying the sunny afternoon and listening to music.
Luca et Nina rentraient chez eux en voiture après leur week-end de camping, profitant de cet après-midi ensoleillé et écoutant de la musique.
That was such a great weekend! The weather was perfect and the campsite was really nice.
Quel super week-end ! Il faisait un temps magnifique et le camping était vraiment sympa.
Nina
I know, I'm so glad we went. My legs are killing me from that hike yesterday though!
Je sais, je suis tellement content qu'on y soit allés. Mais j'ai les jambes qui me font souffrir après la randonnée d'hier !
Luca
But those views were incredible. Do we need to stop for petrol?
Mais les paysages étaient incroyables. On doit s'arrêter pour faire le plein ?
Nina
No, we're fine. The tank's still half full, so we can go straight home.
Non, c'est bon. Le réservoir est encore à moitié plein, on peut rentrer directement.
Luca
Suddenly, the car starts making awful grinding noises and shakes badly.
Soudain, la voiture se met à émettre d'horribles grincements et à trembler violemment.
Luca, what's that noise?
Luca, c'est quoi ce bruit ?
Nina
I don't know. It sounds terrible. I'm pulling over.
Je sais pas. Ça sonne vraiment mal. Je me gare.
Luca
Luca quickly moves onto the side of the road as steam begins to pour out from under the bonnet.
Luca se range rapidement sur le bas-côté tandis que de la vapeur commence à s'échapper de sous le capot.
We'd better call breakdown assistance.
On ferait mieux d'appeler le dépannage.
Nina
I'll phone them now. Can you grab the warning triangle from the boot?
Je les appelle tout de suite. Tu peux aller chercher le triangle de présignalisation dans le coffre ?
Luca
Nina sets up the triangle while Luca dials the breakdown number.
Nina installe le triangle pendant que Luca compose le numéro du dépannage.

Hello, I need breakdown assistance please. We've broken down on the A4 near junction twelve.

David
It’s FG95 KNM, a blue Ford Focus.

Right, got that. What's happened?

The engine started making grinding noises, then just stopped. And there’s steam coming out the bonnet.

Luca
Sounds like your car’s overheating. I'll be there in about half an hour.
On dirait que votre voiture surchauffe. Je serai là dans environ une demi-heure.
David
At least someone's coming. I hope it's not going to cost a fortune.
Au moins quelqu'un vient. J'espère que ça va pas coûter une blinde.
Nina
About half an hour later, David pulls up behind them in his yellow breakdown van.
Environ une demi-heure plus tard, David s'arrête derrière eux avec sa camionnette de dépannage jaune.
Right, let's see what we've got here then…
Bon, voyons voir ce qu'on a là…
David
David pops open the bonnet and has a quick look around the engine.
David ouvre le capot et jette un coup d'œil rapide au moteur.
Ah, there's your problem. The radiator hose has split and you've lost all your coolant. It's not too serious. I've got a spare hose in the van.
Ah, voilà le problème. Le tuyau du radiateur s'est fendu et vous avez perdu tout votre liquide de refroidissement. C'est pas trop grave. J'ai un tuyau de rechange dans la camionnette.
David
Shortly after, David fits the new hose and tops up the coolant. The engine starts up smoothly with no strange noises, and all the warning lights go out.
Peu après, David installe le nouveau tuyau et refait le niveau de liquide de refroidissement. Le moteur redémarre sans à-coups, sans bruit étrange, et tous les voyants d'alerte s'éteignent.
There we go, all sorted.
Et voilà, tout est réglé.
David

After saying goodbye to David, Luca and Nina get back on the road, relieved to be heading home again.
